Instructions that match the surgery you are having

We do not give a single pre-op sheet to FFS, top surgery, and vaginoplasty patients. What you eat, when you stop nicotine, how you bathe, and whether you start a bowel prep depend on the case. After your date is set, you receive instructions for that date. If something in them conflicts with a medication you cannot stop, you call us. You do not freelance.

After surgery, the packet covers dressings, drains, garments, dilation or voice rest if those apply, showering, sleep position, and warning signs. The recovery retreat team uses the same language so you are not hearing two protocols.

Two weeks out

Fill prescriptions, arrange time off, buy garments if they are not provided, confirm lodging and a companion.

The night before

NPO as instructed. No improvising a big meal. Pack the bag we listed, not a maybe pile.

The first 72 hours

Someone should be with you. Swelling peaks. This is when people get into trouble running errands.

Follow-up

Keep the visits. Photo check-ins for travelers are scheduled, not 'send something if you remember.'

When do I receive my specific instructions?

After a date is confirmed, with enough time to buy supplies and stop nicotine. If you do not have them a week before a major case, call us. Do not assume they are coming.

Can I shower?

Usually yes after a point we name. Submerging incisions (bath, pool, ocean) is later. The packet will say when.

What if I live alone?

Then a recovery stay, a friend, or a hired aide for the first nights is part of the plan. We will not pretend independence is the same as safety after a long anesthetic.
